Volunteer Your Time

Expectations of a Volunteer

Just one or two hours each week can make a real difference in a young person’s life. As a volunteer, it can make a real difference in your life, too. The benefits include:
* Positively impacting the lives of Battle Creek youth
* Becoming a role model
* Developing relationships with our members
* Helping to provide a fun and safe environment for young people
* Demonstrating your commitment to helping the community
* Gaining valuable life experiences and skills
* Meeting new people

Our volunteers need to be consistent, caring, flexible and motivated to work with kids. You also must meet the following requirements before we can assign you to the Club:
* 18 years of age
* Possess a high school diploma
* Complete a volunteer application
* Conduct an interview with the program staff
* Attend an orientation session
* Pass a background check

Young people in high school and below the age of 18 who would like to volunteer can contact Club staff directly.

Positions Available:

Mentor
Build and foster a trusting, positive relationship by spending one-on-one time with a member. provide academic and moral support, encouragement and guidance. Afternoon and evening hours available.

Tutor
Assist small groups of members with homework in various subject areas.

Art Instructor
Cultivate growth and expression through a range of visual and performance arts.

Computer Instructor
Assist with programs in the computer lab, including educational software, the Internet, and games.

Coaches and Referees
Assist physical education programs, such as sports group games, tournaments, and leagues.

Leadership Advisors
Assist with programs that provide life skills, goal setting, discussion sessions, and conflict resolution that prepare youth to be responsible, self-reliant, and caring adults.

College and Career Advisors
Help teens explore educational and career aspirations. Activities include job shadowing, college/university tours, and college/career fairs.

Special Event Volunteers
Help during special events at the Club, such as holiday parties, national celebrations, etc. Types of activities vary, based on event. Time requirements can be between 2-6 hours.

Food Service Volunteers
Help during afternoon and evening meal times in areas of food preparation, food service-line, kitchen and cafateria clean-up and menu design.

General Maintenance Volunteers
Assist in providing painting, small repair and construction, and general cleaning services.

Reception and Registration
Assist in daily membership registration and sign-in, coat room, hall monitors, and parking lot monitors

All volunteer positions require at least 1-2 hours commitment each week.
